Ahead of IPL 2018, Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired the services of the World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten as their batting coach. However, the tournament didn’t go well for the Bangalore-based franchise. In 10 games, they managed to win just three games and bagged only three points.

Gary Kirsten was asked to pick the winner of this year’s IPL. He predicted MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings as the good-looking side to win the tournament. He said that the form MS Dhoni is in during the ongoing season didn’t surprise him. However, he added that the cash-rich league is always unpredictable and he had learnt not to predict a winner in the game of cricket.

“CSK are probably the form team at the moment,” he said as quoted by The National. “I’m not surprised with the form of MS Dhoni as he can do amazing things on the field. But funny things can happen in the knockout stage so you can’t say who will go all the way.”

On South Africa’s chance for the upcoming WC

Kirsten was also asked about South Africa’s chances in the upcoming World Cup, he claimed that the South African side did the right things but came short every time. South Africa is yet to win the World Cup despite having dominant players in their side.

“Perhaps, they should do the wrong things in the build-up and get the luck in the tournament because I believe they will have a great team for the World Cup,” he said. “I have always maintained you make your own luck. Teams that are losing are often unlucky and teams that win don’t talk about luck.

“It is amazing that South Africa has a unique record and has been unbeaten away from home for eight years but no one ever talks about that because you don’t get a trophy for that.”
