The Indian Premier League has a maximum quota of four overseas cricketers in every playing XI. Hence it’s evident that representing a national team is far easier than getting into an IPL team. Australian players are picked every season and they make the playing XI owing to their quality in various departments of the game.
They play the Big Bash League during the period from December to February and most of them are accustomed to playing the T20 format. Recently, the list of Australian cricketers for the upcoming Indian Premier League auctions has been released. Several rookie and veterans have found a place in the list of 54 players who will go under the hammer on January 27 and 28 in Bangalore.
A talented bunch from Australia
The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Finch, Chris Lynn and Shaun Marsh have been prolific run-scorer in the tournament. Marsh emerged as the leading run-scorer in the inaugural edition of the event and hasn’t looked back ever since. Maxwell also possesses the ability to rip the best of bowling lineup apart with his bludgeoning display of batting.
Chris Lynn was also outstanding for Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous season. The bowling contingent also looks healthy with the inclusion of Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins and Andrew Tye. Zampa played for the Rising Pune Supergiants in the previous couple of seasons and recorded the best bowling figures by a spinner in the IPL.
Andrew Tye also picked up his maiden IPL hat-trick playing for the Gujarat Lions last season. In James Faulkner, Marcus Stoinis, Ben Cutting and Daniel Christian, the list also consists of quality all-rounders. Apart from the big names, there are emerging players who have done well in the ongoing Big Bash League. The likes of Alex Carey and D’Arcy Short have shown great skills with the willow.
Apart from them, the list has an intriguing combination of fast-bowlers and spinners. Jason Behrendroff ripped off the Indian batting in a T20I at Guwahati and has rightly been included. Fawad Ahmed has also impressed with his leg-breaks. The Australian continent is expected to perform well in the auctions and it won’t spring a surprise if a few of them feature among the highest bids.
