IPL 2018: List of South African players and their base price for the auction

Ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League, the South African players have been an important part of it. It would be tough to imagine an IPL without the Proteas. Their heroics are noteworthy and the Indian fans absolutely love these players. Being the true gentlemen that they are, they go about their work silently. Yet, they are devastating.

Be it AB de Villiers’ 360 knocks, Steyn gun rattling the stumps or Quinton de Kock’s lightening takes, it all keeps the fans on the edge of their seats. This time, only two South African players were retained in the auction. Apart from AB de Villiers and Chris Morris, all other players will take part in the auction on the 27th and 28th of January.

As many as 41 Proteas players are taking part in the auction. Out of these 41, only seven are uncapped players. The rest of the 34 players have international experience and involve some big names. Nine batsmen from South Africa registered their names for the auction. The batters list includes some very big names like Faf du Plessis, David Miller, Colin Ingram and Dean Elgar. However, Faf du Plessis might be retained by the Chennai Super Kings. All these players are expected to go for some good amounts.

Quinton de Kock is the wicketkeeping options available. Also, de Kock and Colin Ingram set themselves the highest base price among all the Proteas. Both their base price equals 200 lakhs which is a mammoth two crores. However, only prominent name from the all-rounders’ column in Jean-Paul Duminy. JP set his base price to 100 lakhs. Also, he has the highest base price amongst the all-rounders. However, other possible picks from all-rounders segment might include Vernon Philander and David Wiese.

The bowlers contingent from the rainbow nation has very big names. Of all the departments, franchises might tend to pick the highest number of players from the bowling department. Pacers Rabada, Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn, Marchant De Lange, Lungisani Ngidi might expect some big numbers. Also, the spinners Muhammad Imran Tahir, Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj are up for grabs.
