Playing at their den away from den last night, the Chennai Super Kings put on an absolute clinic against the Rajasthan Royals to beat them comprehensively and go top of the table in IPL 11. Losing the toss and batting first, the hosts got off to a flyer of a start and maintained the momentum right through the innings to post a 200 plus total on the board which was well above par on the sticky surface of the MCA stadium.
The veteran opener Shane Watson smashed the second hundred of this year’s tournament after Christopher Henry Gayle who did it a couple of nights back against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Watson was at the top of his game straightaway as he got the shots from the meat of his blade from the very first over he faced from Stuart Binny.
The fact that he was dropped at the first slip position early on in his innings didn’t harm him at all as he made sure the opposition paid a huge price for it. The Aussie right-hander was severe against both pace and spin as he pounced on anything lose offered by the Rajasthan bowlers.
The position CSK was in at one stage, they would have perhaps liked to get to 220, but Rajasthan pulled it back slightly in the last 6 overs. However, the score of 204 was still plenty to defend, considering the ball was sticking to the surface.
Rajasthan was never really in the game as they lost wickets at regular intervals in the chase and eventually fell short of the target by a long way. The CSK bowlers, especially Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur, bowled superbly upfront with the new ball and then was backed equally well by Shane Watson and Dwayne Bravo in the middle overs.
Watson’s knock prompted twitter to come up with some funny memes again. Since he is also an ex-RCB player like Gayle, the Twitterati trolled the RCB fans making fun of the fact that everyone starts performing better when they leave RCB and join other teams.
