IPL 2018, Match 4, SRH vs RR - Sunrisers Hyderabad Player Ratings

The new look Rajasthan Royals were absolutely humiliated by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the fourth game of the IPL 2018. The action had moved to Hyderabad for the first look of the two sides in the season. Coming in to the game, they were units facing similar crisis. They had lost their regular skippers in the same infamous scandal and were skeptical about their approach in the tournament.

With this backdrop, the new skippers, Ajinkya Rahane and Kane Williamson, walked out for the toss. Williamson won the toss and opted to bowl first. The move worked very well as the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling made a mockery of the Royals batting on the day. No batsman in the Royals camp, save Sanju Samson, could show resistance with the bat. At the same time, the SRH pacers – Billy Stanlake and Siddarth Kaul – oozed  aggression on the day.

Later, Shakib Al Hasan and Rashid Khan bowled tight lines to restrict the Royals to just 125/9 in 20 overs. The run chase was always going to be easy. However, the SRH camp lost Wriddhiman Saha early in the chase. After that, Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan added an unbeaten 121 run stand to steer their side home by 9 wickets. Dhawan top scored with an unbeaten 77 to his name. It was a one sided affair on the day between the two sides.

Shikhar Dhawan – 9/10

Over the last few seasons, Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the mainstays of the SRH batting lineup. This year, with no David Warner in the side, Dhawan is expected to play a bigger role in the team. And with the way he has started, the signs are good for the Orange Army. Dhawan remained unbeaten on 77 off 57 deliveries with 13 fours and a six to seal the game for his side.

Wriddhiman Saha – 2/10

Wriddhiman Saha was asked to open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan in the match. With the target being a modest one, Saha had a very good opportunity to make an impact in the match. But the veteran campaigner largely failed and could only score 5 on the day.

Kane Williamson – 7/10

The newly appointed Sunrisers skipper Kane Williamson had a very impressive debut as the captain of the franchise. He remained unbeaten on 36 off 35 deliveries to ensure that his side was over the line with 9 wickets in hand. Earlier in the game, his excellent bowling changes helped the SRH camp contain the opposition to a below par total.

Manish Pandey – 3/10

The services of Manish Pandey were not needed with the bat on the day. The SRH top order was good enough to get the job done for the team. Earlier in the game, Pandey was electrifying in the field. He took a very good catch to send Rahul Tripathi packing.

Deepak Hooda – Not Assigned

Deepak Hooda did not have a big role to play in the match. Hooda did not get a chance to bat and neither did the SRH skipper hand him the ball during the first innings.

Yusuf Pathan – 5/10

Much like the other middle order batsmen of the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp, the services of Yusuf Pathan with the bat were not needed on the day. Also, he was not given the ball during the first innings. However, Yusuf did make his presence felt. He took a very good catch on the boundary ropes and then inflicted a decent run out as well.

Shakib Al Hasan – 9/10

Shakib Al Hasanw as the pick of the bowlers for the Sunrisers Hyderabad on the day. Shakib bowled a very crucial match changing spell on the day. He dismissed the two set batsmen – Rahul Tripathi and Sanju Samson – in quick succession to bring a halt to the Royals innings. He returned with figures of 2/23 in his complete quota of four overs.

Rashid Khan – 8.5/10

Rashid Khan has been an integral member of the SRH camp and he continued to show why he is regarded as such a fine asset to have in the limited overs cricket. The Afghanistani bowler bagged 1/23 in his quota of four overs and accounted for the wicket of Jos Buttler in the match. He bowled exceptionally well in the death overs.

Billy Stanlake – 8/10

Billy Stanlake got an opportunity in the match and the young Australian looked absolute superstar with the ball. His short deliveries were tough to negotiate with. Stanlake picked the big wicket of Ben Stokes at a crucial stage in the game. He certainly had a great day on the field. Stanlake finished with numbers of 1/29 to his name.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 6/10

Bhuvneshwar Kumar had an ordinary day at the office. The SRH spearhead did not bowl his very best and returned with ordinary numbers by his standards. He got a wicket in the fag end of the innings, that of Shreyas Gopal, to finish with 1/30 in his four overs.

Siddarth Kaul – 9/10

Young Siddarth Kaul has been one of the underrated stars in the Sunrisers Hyderabad setup. Kaul has been bowling in the shadows of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the camp. But on the day, he had a name of his own. He bowled the short balls to perfection to trouble the Royals batsman. He returned with figures of 2/17 in the four overs that he bowled. He dismissed Ajinkya Rahane and K Gowtham in the match.
