The Rajasthan Royals and the Kings XI Punjab faced off against one another in the space of two days in the 2018 edition of the IPL. And it was fair to the fortunes that they ended up with a win each at the end of the two matches. A couple of nights ago, KL Rahul had guided the run chase for the Kings XI Punjab in Indore against the Royals. Now, it seemed like a deja vu with Rahul rallying the innings for the Kings in Jaipur.

However, he failed to take his side over the line on the day as the Rajasthan Royals successfully defended 158 in the match. Earlier in the game, the Royals batted first after winning the toss. While they kept losing wickets from one end, Jos Buttler led the counter attack for them. The English cricketer hammered a quick 82 off 58 deliveries. After his dismissal in the 17th over, the innings failed to get a finisher and ended on 158/8 in 20 overs.

In the run chase, the story looked like a one way traffic. K Gowtham picked up two big wickets in the third over and that started the procession of batsmen heading back to the pavilion. KL Rahul was the lone ranger for the Kings in the chase. Rahul remained unbeaten on 95 off just 70 deliveries to get his side close. But his efforts ended in vain as the Kings fell short by 15 runs.

Here are the Rajasthan Royals Player Ratings for the match:

Ajinkya Rahane – 2/10

The Rajasthan Royals skipper was back to the opening role in this particular game. Rahane, however, failed to make an impact. He was the first batsman to be dismissed in the game. He was dismissed on 9 by Andrew Tye in the fourth over. Later, on the field, he made some very good bowling changes to keep his side in the hunt.

Jos Buttler – 9.5/10

Jos Buttler was the star of the show for the Rajasthan team in the match. On a track where most batsmen struggled, Buttler found his feet going in the powerplay. He led the counter attack as the wickets kept tumbling from one end. Buttler scored this third consecutive fifty in the tournament. He finished with a score of 82 to his name in just 58 deliveries with 9 fours and a six.

K Gowtham – 8/10

K Gowtham got a promotion to number three in the match. He had a very good opportunity to show his skills with the bat but could only score 8. Later, he played a big part of the Royals bowling. He dismissed Chris Gayle and R Ashwin in the third over of the match to set things up for his side. He returned with figures of 2/12 in the three overs that he bowled.

Sanju Samson – 4/10

Sanju Samson’s poor form in the second half of the season continued in this game. He arrived at the crease at a crucial stage in the game with the team needing his services. Samson got a decent start of 22 off 18 deliveries but ended up throwing it away with a mistimed heave.

Ben Stokes – 4/10

Ben Stokes finally found some luck with the ball. The English all-rounder has had a very ordinary IPL thus far. In the match, he returned with figures of 1/13 in the two overs that he bowled, getting the wicket of Manoj Tiwary. Earlier in the game, he scored 14 with the bat and looked largely out of touch after an initial good shot.

Stuart Binny – 2/10

Stuart Binny did not have a big role to play in the game. However, he did have a chance to make an impact in the game. He had his chance to become a hero as he got his opportunity to bat. But he was unfortunate to get run out on 11 after hitting a brilliant six. He did not get an opportunity to bowl in the game.

Jofra Archer – 6/10

Jofra Archer had a decent outing with the ball. The fiery pacer bowled his complete quota of four overs and took a wicket. He accounted for the dismissal of Karun Nair in the game. However, he was slightly expensive on the day as he conceded 32 runs in his quota of overs. Earlier in the game, he had bagged a golden duck with the bat.

Mahipal Lomror – 2.5/10

Young Mahipal Lomror got an opportunity to play in the game. He came in to bat in the fag end of the innings but found it tough to take the attack to Andrew Tye. Barring a boundary in his unbeaten 9, he failed to get the right connection. With the ball, he bowled 2 overs and gave away 19 runs with no wickets to his name.

Jaydev Unadkat – 5/10

The Rajasthan Royals showed their faith in Jaydev Unadkat for yet another game despite his poor run this season. In the match, Unadkat was still not at his fluent best but managed to get the job done for his side somehow. He dismissed Marcus Stoinis in the final over of the game. He finished with figures of 1/36 in his four overs.

Anureet Singh – 2/10

Anureet Singh seemed like only making up the numbers for the Rajasthan Royals in the match. The pace bowler was given just one over to bowl and he returned with figures of 0/12 in the over. He was not given another over to roll his arm over.

Ish Sodhi – 9.5/10

Ish Sodhi was brought back in to the playing eleven for this game. He played his second IPL game this season and proved to be a key player for his side. He bowled four overs of golddust and was highly economical. Also, he took the wicket of Akshdeep Nath in the game. Sodhi returned with figures of 1/14 in the four overs that he bowled.
