Yesterday’s encounter between Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was a test of nerves, a battle which was won by MS Dhoni’s team in the end. CSK eventually won the match by 13 runs, beating DD in the former’s adopted home ground, Pune. Dhoni starred with the bat as he hit a 22-ball 51, to take CSK to a mammoth 211. With this quickfire innings, Dhoni also became the captain with most runs in IPL history, surpassing Gambhir in the process.

However, in a rare incident, ‘captain cool’ was seen losing his temper when things didn’t go according to him last night. MS Dhoni getting angry after Dwayne Bravo got hit for a six is a moment that is worth taking from yesterday’s fixture.

It was the 19th over in which the event happened. The bowler was Bravo, who had the responsibility of bowling the penultimate over. A well-set Vijay Shankar pulled Bravo for a six. For the very next ball, Bravo came up with a slower delivery, to which Shankar went low on his knees and hit it over long-on for yet another six. That is when MS Dhoni seemed to have lost it. His exasperated expressions said it all.

CSK got off to a flying start, courtesy Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson’s power-packed performance at the top. Watson eventually culminated his innings on 78 while Faf made a steady 33 that laid the platform for a Dhoni finish. The wicketkeeper-batsman registered a speedy half-century, which included 5 monstrous sixes to finish the proceedings in style powering Chennai Super Kings to a massive total of 211/4.

In reply, DD never really got off to a steady start as they lost wickets in at regular intervals, which led the required run-rate to creep up. Rishabh Pant’s 79 Vijay Shankar quickfire 51*ensured Daredevils get closer to the target but it was not enough as they ended at 198 for five. This win allows CSK to get a stronghold on their numero uno spot once again.
