The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got underway on Saturday following the glittering opening ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium. Two of the most successful teams in the history Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings locked horns with the world awaiting for the first ball to be bowled. Though the home side lost the close game, they unearthed a sensational talent in Mayank Markande. However, Pakistani sports anchor and analyst Zainab Abbas also loved his bowling and praised him wholeheartedly only to face the severe backlash.
The 20-year-old leggie endured a dream debut as he scalped the wickets of MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu and Deepak Chahar in his four-over spell and only conceded 23 runs. He consistently kept on second-guessing the opposition batsmen and was unperturbed despite being hit for a couple of sixes during his spell. He was known to a very few fans before the game and has now become an overnight sensation.
Zainab faces the heat
The die-hard cricket fans have no boundaries of countries and they can watch and enjoy quality at any point in time. Similarly, Zainab Abbas, the famous Sports anchor of Pakistan, was delighted to see Mayank Markande wrecking havoc in the opening game of the IPL and praised him on Twitter. She was delighted of the fact that the leg-spinners were ruling the cricketing world and welcomed the youngster to the club of Shadab Khan, Rashid Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal.
“It’s a legspinners world these days – Rashid Khan,Shadab Khan,Yuzvendra Chahal & now Markande from MI.. #MIvCSK,” she tweeted.
However, Pakistani fans didn’t take this tweet from her in a good taste and lashed out at Zainab for following the IPL. The hatred among the fans of the two countries has increased a lot following Shahid Afridi’s controversial comment on the ‘India’ occupied Kashmir. The fans suggested her to boycott the Indian T20 extravaganza while also reminding her that even Pakistan has their own T20 league.
