The last one year for Chris Gayle hasn’t given him much to cheer owing to lack of fitness and his erratic form. He wasn’t picked to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after which he had a lacklustre outing in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. To add to his agony, he went unsold a couple of times in the auction of the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, Preity Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab bagged him at his base price of 2 crores following which there was a round of applause from the cricketing dignitaries present there. He wasn’t included in Punjab’s opening games against the Delhi Daredevils and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Nevertheless, Ravichandran Ashwin roped him in place of David Miller against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The mayhem for SRH inflicted by Chris Gayle

The decision paid dividends when the Jamaican batsman smacked the CSK bowlers to all corners of the ground. Punjab, eventually, managed to beat MS Dhoni’s men by four wickets in the cliffhanger in Mohali. Subsequently, he had been adjudged the Player of the Match. In the next game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Gayle carried forward his form and showed his brutal skills with the willow.

He curbed his natural instincts during the early stages of the knock, but later took the SRH bowlers to the cleaners and notched his sixth hundred in the IPL and his 21st overall. The knock earned him the Player of the Match for the second successive time.

Preity Zinta has been the owner ever since the first season, but his team hasn’t lifted the championship even once. However, she was delighted following the manner Gayle has taken on the bowlers. She took to Twitter and expressed her elation. She wrote.

“First 100 of #vivoipl2018 & 2nd #Manofthematch 4 @henrygayle ThankGod  I was on the right side of the #Gaylestorm #joy @lionsdenkxip #Ting”
