Prithvi Shaw has taken giant strides ever since he forayed into the game of cricket. He was outstanding during his maiden stint for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. Thereafter, he was appointed the skipper of the Indian Under-19 team during the World Cup in New Zealand. There he churned out some superlative performances with the willow and captained the side to glory under the tutelage of Rahul Dravid.

Among the newcomers, Prithvi Shaw was one of the players to watch out for in the auction. He entered the auction at a base price of 20 lakhs after which the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Daredevils went hammer and tongs for him. However, the Daredevils eventually managed to bag him for a substantial INR 1.20 crores. Nevertheless, being an inexperienced campaigner, he might not be considered initially into the team.

“Great opportunity for us”- Prithvi Shaw

However, the Mumbai cricketer isn’t bothered by the same and is looking forward to rubbing shoulders with Gautam Gambhir and Ricky Ponting. “It doesn’t matter if we play or not. Whenever we play, we’ll give it all for the team. We’ll get good experience in the IPL. It’s a great opportunity even if we sit outside. To share the dressing room with Gambhir sir, Ricky sir – it’s a great opportunity for us in the first season. I’m looking forward to the experience,” Shaw mentioned as quoted by Wisden India.

“I just met Gambhir sir yesterday because he wasn’t well. He was asking about the World Cup, how it went. Ricky sir has been working hard for me and for the team. In T20 cricket, you just need to be mentally prepared for situations. Ricky sir said T20 is very fast and you don’t get much time. He said small things matter in T20s and he’s just preparing us for those things that he has already achieved in his career.” the World Cup-winning skipper added.

The Daredevils are the among the few teams in the event who haven’t won the trophy even once n the last ten seasons. However, this time around they have some big names in their armoury including the likes of Colin Munro, Kagiso Rabada and Rishabh Pant and would be hoping to churn out some healthy performances in the days ahead.
