IPL 2018: Ravi Ashwin has a special message for Yuvraj Singh

India’s premier spinner in the longest format of the game, Ravichandran Ashwin has been named the captain of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He would be leading the charge from the front for the first time in the global Twenty20 tournament.

There are some star Indian as well as the overseas cricketers who would be playing for the Kings this year under the leadership of the off-spinner. However, Ashwin expressed one of his special wishes which he wants from veteran Indian cricketer and hometown Punjabi Yuvraj Singh in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

I just want to see Yuvi paaji go there and entertain the fans

Yuvraj was with KXIP during the first three seasons of the competition and was even their marquee player in the inaugural edition in 2008. He was appointed the captain of the franchise in 2008 and then also went on to represent some of the other franchises as well. And now at the 2018 IPL auction, the Punjab team has once again procured their hometown personality.

Newly appointed skipper Ashwin is very excited to watch the southpaw going out and entertain all the fans with his aggressive brand of cricket, “For me, it is all about Yuvi paaji trying to go out there and entertain the fans. It is very important we play an aggressive brand of cricket. And as far as I’m concerned, I would love to see him play freely and hit those big shots. I’m looking to give him as many overs as possible. I think he will be one of the best batsmen in our team,” said Ashwin stating his expectations from Yuvraj in the upcoming season as quoted by Times Now.

He can be the X-factor which we have been looking for

Through all days of his cricketing career so far, Yuvraj has been the most charismatic and spectacular personalities that the sport has ever witnessed. The spinner also mentioned that the left-hander would be playing an important role both as a batsman and an adviser in the side this year.

“More than anything else, I would love to see the pie chucker in Yuvi paaji. One of my strong points is to try and be innovative and try and change things up. And Yuvi paaji will be a very, very integral part of our team. He will be a very big lynchpin for me to try and go for sort of advice on the field. He could well be that X-factor we are looking for, but having said that, he is a young guy and I really look forward to look (at) him up close,” added the newly named KXIP skipper.
