The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently underway and teams are fighting tooth and nail to outclass each other. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) find themselves at the bottom half of the table with a couple of wins from five matches. They have been erratic, but have been phenomenal in certain stages of their games.
Meanwhile, the team is trying to keep themselves motivated and not succumb to the pressure exerted by the defeats. Recently, AB de Villiers, the South African cricketer, mentioned the influence of a baseball match between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees as a motivational tonic prior to their game against the Delhi Daredevils in Bangalore in his column for the Times of India.
The movie which changed RCBs luck
“Dan Vettori, our coach, is one of the more cerebral personalities in cricket. He suggested on the evening before the match against Delhi Daredevils that we should gather as a squad and watch a film about the infamous American League Championship Series in 2004, when the Boston Red Sox trailed 0-3 against the New York Yankees but fought back to win 4-3,” de Villiers wrote in the journal.
Virat Kohli’s men were in grave danger of losing their fourth game, but AB de Villiers dished out an awe-inspiring knock which helped them comprehensively emerge victorious with a couple of spare. De Villiers also mentioned that they desperately wanted to win the game and didn’t want to be a recipient of further criticism from the cricketing fraternity following another drubbing.
“It is hard to overstate the importance of RCB’s win over Delhi Daredevils in Bengaluru on Saturday. We didn’t want to lose again at home. We didn’t want to slip to the bottom of the table with four defeats in our first five matches. We didn’t want to hear the pundits talking again about RCB underperforming and failing to live up to their potential” he added in his column.
