The 4th week of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 witnessed an increase in the gap between the top four and bottom four teams as Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad have nearly confirmed their playoffs spot with seven wins apiece. Delhi Daredevils are on the verge of getting eliminated from the tournament while the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians are living on the brink as well.
Major milestones and records that were recorded in the 4th week of the IPL 2018:
1 – Piyush Chawla became the first player to bag 50 wickets in the IPL for two different teams. He took 84 wickets while playing for the Kings XI Punjab and completed 50 wickets for KKR with the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja against CSK. Interestingly, Chawla’s 50th wicket for KXIP was also Jadeja.
1 – SRH became the first team to defeat the Rajasthan Royals after electing to bat first in Jaipur. They successfully defended their total of 151/7 in the game played on Sunday.
2 – The Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the Mumbai Indians for only the 2nd time in the IPL at the Chinnaswamy. They defeated MI by two runs during the 2013 edition at their home venue. Their win against MI this week is their first since the start of the 2016 edition.
18 – Jos Buttler’s 18-ball fifty against DD is the fastest fifty for a Rajasthan Royals player in the IPL. The previous fastest IPL fifty by a RR player was by Owais Shah off 19 balls against RCB in 2012. Buttler completed his fifty in 4.1 overs of their innings. This is only the 3rd instance when a player has scored a fifty in the IPL that early in the innings.
18y 237d – At the age of 18 years and 237 days, Shubman Gill became the 4th youngest player to score a fifty in the IPL. He is the 5th player to score an IPL fifty before turning 19 but the first to do so while batting at No.4 or lower.
19 – Yusuf Pathan has remained unbeaten on 19 occasions in successful run-chases in the IPL which are the joint-most times by any player. Ravindra Jadeja also has been unbeaten in 19 successful chases in the IPL. Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni also remained unbeaten during 17 successful chases in IPL.
100 – Chennai Super Kings became the 2nd team with 100 wins in the Twenty20 format with their win over Delhi Daredevils in Pune. Mumbai Indians became the first team with 100 T20 wins during the previous edition.
101 – Ambati Rayudu became the 16th player to hit 100+ sixes in the IPL during the game against RCB in Pune. He smashed 79 sixes while playing for the Mumbai Indians in 107 innings and already has 22 sixes for Chennai Super Kings in 10 innings.
164 – The 164-run chase by Sunrisers Hyderabad against DD is their highest at their home ground in Hyderabad in the IPL. Their previous highest successful chase at this venue was 161 against RCB in 2014.
301 – Number of sixes Rohit Sharma has hit in the Twenty20 format so far. He became the first Indian and the overall 7th player to crack 300 sixes in the T20 format during the game against KXIP.
1053 – Ajinkya Rahane became the first player to score 1000 runs in the Twenty20 format at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. He completed the milestone during the game against SRH.
2011 – Robin Uthappa became the 2nd player after Gautam Gambhir (3035) to score 2000 IPL runs for KKR. He completed the milestone during the game against RCB in Bangalore.
3631 – MS Dhoni now holds the record for scoring the most number of runs as a captain in the IPL. Dhoni went past Gautam Gambhir’s tally of 3518 runs as captain in the IPL.
