The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League is currently underway. The tournament has already been a witness to three awe-inspiring encounters between the teams. Meanwhile, Delhi Daredevils have also played their opening game against the Kings XI Punjab against whom they were beaten black and blue by six wickets at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

The Daredevils will play their first game at the Feroz Shah Kotla on April 23 against the same opposition. However, a major detriment has sparked, before the hosting of the games at the venue in the national capital. The tussle between the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) and civic authorities is an open secret and has come to the fore many times.

Internal problem of DDCA

The sale of tickets for the RP Mehra block, the old clubhouse, which can accommodate approximately 2000 spectators, have been put on hold owing to pending cases in the court. The authorities are yet to give clearance to a part of the stadium, which is also the place for media enclosure. Recently a source updated the status on the ongoing dispute in an interaction with The Times of India.

“DDCA should have done something about this and sorted out the issue. It’s an internal problem of DDCA and nothing can be done as of now. It is not that the authorities are against the stadium block. There are surely some concern regarding the proximity between the clubhouse and the Kotla Baoli, but the match ticket should be an issue if other the court has something else to say,” the source mentioned.

Most interestingly, some of the DDCA members are also in favour of demolishing the building while even the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) didn’t create any major issue on this matter. For the time being, the DDCA would be hoping for things to get sorted at the earliest and for smooth conduct of the games at the Kotla.
