The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently taking place and the playoffs are currently underway. The tournament has been a witness to some jaw-dropping encounters and a plethora of matches have turned out to be humdingers. Meanwhile, the commentators have also been a crucial component as they have been presenting the contests to the viewers on television.

The Indian broadcasters have been a recipient of some flak as they are said to not deliver the desired standards of commentary. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) has retained Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar as the Indian commentators for the playoffs of the mega T20 extravaganza as per reports in Mumbai Mirror. The board also refrained from answering the questions surrounding the matter.

Meanwhile, it is also the first time when only a couple of them has been booked for the playoffs. The likes of Anjum Chopra, Murali Kartik, L Sivaramakrishnan, Harsha Bhogle and Rohan Gavaskar have bid adieu to the event. Among the foreigners, Michael Clarke, Michael Slater, Matthew Hayden (Australia), Graeme Smith (South Africa) and Simon Doull (New Zealand) have been entrusted by the Indian board.

India will face England for a T20I, ODI and Test series next month and only one Indian in Harbhajan Singh has been called by Sky. The likes of Michael Atherton, David Lloyd, Nasser Hussain, Ian Botham and David Gower will be the other commentators during the series.

For the time being, the focus is on today’s Qualifier 2 between the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The match will be played at the Eden Gardens and the winners will progress to the final to face the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Final will be played on May 27.
