The Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2018 kicks-off with the biggest rivalry of them all – defending champions Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings the returning franchise. As both the teams gear up for the contest at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, what is it that they’re playing for this season? IPL revealed prize money for the champion, runner-up and the other two teams who play the playoffs.
As has been the format of the tournament in the last few years the 8 teams will play 56 league matches to start with. Teams to play each other twice once at home and away. Based on the standings after 14 matches each the top 4 teams qualify for the playoffs. The top two ranked teams there will play the Qualifier – the winner directly goes into the final. The bottom two teams play the Eliminator 1. The team that loses the Qualifier and the team that wins the Eliminator 1 face off in the Eliminator 2 and the winner goes to the final.
Here is the Points System that will be followed:
Win – 2 Points
No Result – 1 Point
Loss – No Point
In case of a tie, Super Over to decide the winner
The total prize money the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has on offer is Rs 50 crore. The winner of IPL 2018 will take the biggest cheque worth Rs 20 crore back with them. The runner-up will get Rs 12.5 crore and the other two teams who make it to the playoffs will not return empty-handed either.
Previously the prize money in IPL 2015 was rupees 40 crore with the winner taking Rs 15 crore out of it and the runner-up receiving Rs 7.5 crore.
As per the IPL rules, the prize money is distributed equally among all the players and the get the final benefit of it.
Prize Money for IPL 2018
Winner – Rs 20 crore
Runner-up – Rs 12.5 crore
3rd placed team – Rs 8.75 crore
4th placed team – Rs 8.75 crore
