IPL 2018: Twitterverse troll Chennai Super Kings for buying senior players

The IPL 2018 auctions saw a lot of surprises spring up. Different teams had different strategies as they arrived at the auctions. The strategy of some teams were comprehensible, while some left the fans guessing about their approach. Among this second group of teams was the Chennai Super Kings. Team CSK will be making their comeback on the IPL roster this year.

They completed their two year suspension period and are now all set to be back at the mega event along with the other team that was suspended, the Rajasthan Royals. As the first day of the IPL 2018 auctions got over, the cricket pundits rightly cited that the Chennai Super Kings have possibly faltered by not picking up key bowlers in their side.

Moreover, the problem was not only with their key bowlers, but also with the players they picked in the other departments. It is worth noting that the CSK purchased players who are at the wrong side of the 30 in the age bracket. The first surprise for the fans was when the CSK think tank went all guns blazing to rope in the services of Kedar Jadhav.

Next, they did not opt for their trusted spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Albeit, they chose to pick a bowler much senior to him – Harbhajan Singh. The 37-year old off-spinner made it to the CSK squad. Later, the team also retained the services of West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo by using their Right To Match option. Interestingly, even Bravo is 36 years old.

Among others, the team chose to use their RTM for another player over 30 years of age. The 33-year old South African batsman Faf du Plessis found a place in the Chennai Super Kings squad too. If that was not it, there is another interesting member waiting to lead the CSK camp. MS Dhoni, who himself is a veteran in the game, was retained by the franchise prior to the commencement of the auctions.

The fans were absolutely harsh on the Super Kings as they trolled them for picking up all senior players. Funny tweets and memes flooded the internet soon.
