IPL 2019: 3 players who can replace Steve Smith
Smith is likely to be ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder proved that he still has some fuel left after his breathtaking 140 almost took the game against New Zealand in the 2nd ODI. Perera is a hard-hitting all-rounder whose problem mainly lies in the consistency required to achieve regular results. While his bowling needs some minor tweaks, his batting looks sorted and he can provide the much-needed depth to the Royals’ batting order and can chip in with a couple of overs in the middle overs.
Furthermore, Perera is a good fielder and hardly lets anything go past him in the field. Perera carries an impressive strike rate of 137 in the IPL and has 31 wickets to his name at an economy of 8.3. He is a valuable asset to possess and would be the ideal replacement for Smith, based on current form.
