When a little-known Ashton Turner slammed a 43-ball 84 not out to boot India out of a game in Mohali last month even after the hosts scoring 358, the cricketing fraternity was overwhelmed. The Australian batsman became an overnight sensation following that knock that came only in his second ODI and expectations were high about him producing a magical show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019.

However, the Western Australia batsman, who also had a magnificent Big Bash League (BBL) earlier this year for the Perth Scorchers, came up with a complete anti-climax in the IPL as he fell for a golden duck in all three games that he played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) till Monday.

Turner flounders yet again

It was perhaps the most forgettable debut a player has made in the glitzy tournament which otherwise lays the whole world out in front of the batters to conquer. Turner has, in fact, failed to score a run in his last five T20 matches that included, besides the three IPL games, a match in the Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers and a T20I against India. He became the owner of a dubious record as well because of this.

That cricket is a great leveller became evident when the 26-year-old Turner made his IPL debut in the same Mohali where he had belted the Indian bowlers last month. He became the first overseas player in the tournament and the sixth overall to fall for three consecutive ducks in a season.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir had fallen for three ducks in the 2014 season when he was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Besides, players like Pawan Negi, and Shardul Thakur, Rahul Sharma and Ashok Dinda too, have had the same experience.

The Twitterati came up with hilarious reactions to Turner’s poor debut in the IPL
