IPL 2019: Complete list of retained and released players

The preparations for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have begun as the teams have finalised the list of retained and released players. While the trading window witnessed big and unexpected changes with Shikhar Dhawan and Quinton de Kock hogging the limelight, the franchises managed to surprise the fans even more as they let go off some of the star T20 players ahead of the auction next month.

Brendon McCullum, Corey Anderson and Chris Woakes are the three big overseas cricketers released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In another big move, Delhi Daredevils, who acquired Dhawan’s services from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), released Gautam Gambhir who famously returned to the home franchise on the back of two titles with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But the things didn’t go well for him and he even had to step down from the captaincy after the first few matches.

Glenn Maxwell has also paid for his poor show earlier this year while Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson are the other Australians to have faced the heat from their respective sides. Aaron Finch also has been released by the Kings XI Punjab probably due to no clarity over his availability with the World Cup scheduled to take place soon after the cash-rich tournament.

The likes of Steve Smith and David Warner have been retained by their respective franchise despite not playing the last season due to the infamous ball-tampering scandal. The million dollar pick of the auction last season Jaydev Unadkat has paid the price for his non-performance as the Rajasthan Royals (RR) decided to part ways with him and he will once again go under the hammer now.
