IPL 2019: Delhi Capitals appoint Sourav Ganguly as the advisor of the team
Ganguly and Ponting will be working together for the first time.
Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting were responsible for the rise of India and Australia respectively during their captaincy eras. Both of them were aggressive in their approach which worked in the team’s favour more often than not. However, the duo was pitted against each other always on the field and it was a battle to watch out for. Well, the prospect of them playing together would’ve been brilliant for the fans. Nevertheless, they will now share the dressing room for the Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals, for the upcoming season, have appointed Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captian, as the advisor of the team. They confirmed the news on Thursday on their official Twitter handle and Ponting and Ganguly will now form the strategies against the oppositions during the IPL. It will be interesting to see how they gel with each other and most importantly, how the team benefits from this association.
Delhi to play against Mumbai on March 24
Delhi Capitals, lead by Shreyas Iyer, will begin their campaign in the Indian Premier League on March 24 against the three-time champions Mumbai Indians. The franchise has done everything they could’ve to revive the hopes of winning the elusive title this season and with the appointment of Sourav Ganguly, they will be feeling positive going into the season.
As far as their show last season is concerned, it was a total mess. Gautam Gambhir, the local boy, was the captain at the start. But the team’s and his failures led to Gambhir stepping down from the role mid-season and Iyer was handed over the mantle of the side. The move didn’t work either as the then Daredevils (now Capitals) ended up at the last place after 14 matches in the league stages.
The rejuvenated team will now be hoping to at least qualify for the playoffs this season and mark a new beginning with a brilliant show.
