Kings XI Punjab have been one of the most exciting teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise though is yet to win a trophy till date. The Preity Zinta-owned team came really close in the 2014 edition but ended up being the runners-up. Ravichandran Ashwin in all likelihood will retain captaincy going into the next season.
Ahead of the IPL Auction in Jaipur, the Punjab franchise has the highest amount of purse remaining. With Rs 36.20 crores in their kitty, KXIP are likely to go after the most sought players in the auction. They already boast of quality T20 cricketers like KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Andrew Tye, David Miller and the Afghanistan sensation Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
List of 11 players in Kings XI Punjab’s radar
Kings XI Punjab released a list of 11 players who were in their radar. The team has 15 slots available which include four overseas players. The list included explosive Kiwi opener Brendon McCullum. With a strike rate of 137.21 and 9620 runs in the T20 format, he is surely going to be amongst the hottest buys in the auction.
Shimron Hetmyer is another player who is likely to be considered by Punjab. The Caribbean hard hitter was quite impressive in the recent series against India. With the middle order underperforming last year, Hetmyer’s inclusion can bring a change. Surprisingly, even released all-rounder Axar Patel features in the list. He might well be a strategic buy for Punjab.
The Kings also had their eyes towards Wriddhiman Saha, the man who scored a century in the 2014 final. Unfortunately, the match didn’t go their way but the thinktank is keen to have him back at the lion’s den. Jaydev Unadkat who went for Rs 11.5 crores in the previous auction was released by RR this year. He too is amongst the probables for Kings XI Punjab.
Here’s the list
Brendon McCullum, Wriddhiman Saha, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Jaydev Unadkat, Anmolpreet Singh, Tanmay Mishra, Harsh Tyagi, Kuldeep Sen, Diwesh Pathania.
