It was Sam Curran’s day in Mohali. The Kings XI Punjab bowlers came back sensationally in the last four overs to inflict a huge collapse. The Delhi Capitals were sitting pretty at 144/3 in the chase and lost their last seven wickets for just eight runs to lose the game easily by 14 runs. Sam Curran took a brilliant hat-trick and nailed his lines perfectly to leave the opposition baffled. The victory also took the KXIP to the second position and they will be looking to be consistent now.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) got off to a poor start as Prithvi Shaw got out off the very first ball thanks to the KXIP skipper Ravi Ashwin. But that was the only moment for the hosts as the Capitals were spot on in the chase since then. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram played enough to keep the team well ahead and they were literally cruising until the 17th over when something hit them.

Mohammed Shami castled Pant to break a key partnership and the very next ball Ashwin affected a direct hit to send back Chris Morris to turn the game on its head. The Capitals lost wickets in heap and from being comfortable at 144/3 when the 17th over, they were 148/8 in the 19th over. 15 needed in the last over with Kagiso Rabada and Avesh Khan in the middle. But Sam Curran was too good for them as he literally ran through the tail, in the end, to pick up a sensational hat-trick.

The Delhi Capitals choked once again and this time, they lost seven wickets for just eight runs to lose the match by 14 runs.

KXIP miss Gayle’s impact with the bat

After being put in to bat first, the KXIP managed to surprise everyone by sending Sam Curran to open the innings along with KL Rahul. The latter farmed the strike for the first couple of overs and was pinned in front of the stumps by Chris Morris at the end of it. Mayank Agarwal was run out early much to the despair of the home side. But Sarfaraz Khan was in the mood today and he played a whirlwind knock and also rebuilt the innings.

Meanwhile, Sam Curran played his shots to score 20 off just 10 balls even as Sarfaraz stitched a 62-run stand with David Miller. While Sarfaraz scored 39 off 29, Miller raced his way to 43 runs off 30 deliveries. But the wicket of both the batsmen stalled KXIP’s run-rate and they never got the final flourish. In the last six overs, the home team could only add 46 runs and lost six wickets.

They eventually could manage only 166 runs for the loss of nine wickets after 20 overs. However, the score was enough, in the end, thanks to a sensational collapse from the Capitals. The social media gimmicks trolled the DC team while hailed the KXIP for staying upbeat in the chase.
