The Chennai Super Kings extended their dominance at the top of the table with their 6th win while no other team has won more than four yet. The defending champions now have won six of the seven matches leaving Rajasthan Royals five defeats in six games. The equation could have been different for both the teams had Ben Stokes bowled better in the last three balls after shattering MS Dhoni’s stumps.
Here are all the lesser known stats recorded during CSK’s 6th win of the season:
Another teenager in the IPL:
At the age of 17 years and 152 days, Riyan Parag became the 2nd youngest debutant from India and overall the 3rd youngest debutant in the IPL. Earlier this season, Prayas Ray Barman (16y 157d) and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman (17y 011d) during the previous edition made their IPL debuts at a younger age than Riyan. Interestingly, Riyan was the 2nd youngest from India and overall the 5th youngest to feature in the Twenty20 format. He made his T20 debut in January 2017 at an age of 15 years and 80 days.
An Interesting coincidence:
Mitchell Santner’s last ball six ensured MS Dhoni completed 100 wins as captain in the IPL. He is only the 2nd player to win an IPL game by hitting a six on the last ball for the CSK team. The first player to achieve this feat was Dwayne Bravo who hit a six on the last ball against Rajat Bhatia in 2012 against KKR. Interestingly, that six recorded the 50th win as captain for MS Dhoni for CSK in Twenty20 cricket. Coincidently, Dhoni was bowled in the final over in both games; the last two instances of him getting ‘bowled’ in 20th over in the IPL.
RR creates a unique record:
The Rajasthan Royals batsmen were in hit or out mode on a slow track in Jaipur. As many as nine players got a chance to bat in their innings and each of them hit at least one four. Thus, they recorded only the 2nd instance of nine different players hitting a four in an IPL inning. The first one was recorded by the Delhi Daredevils during a chase in the 2017 season against the Gujarat Lions. Overall, RR’s innings is the 7th in the IPL where exactly nine players hit a boundary (four or six).
Dhoni shines against RR:
In 17 IPL innings against the Rajasthan Royals till 2018 in the IPL, MS Dhoni has scored only 287 runs at an average of 31.88. His highest score against them was only 41*. However, he improved his record against them with an unbeaten 75 in the home fixture against them and followed with 58 in the away fixture. Dhoni stood out as the player of the match in the two games against RR this year.
