The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been in awe-inspiring form in this edition’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Barring the Mumbai Indians (MI), no other franchise has been able to get the better of MS Dhoni and Co. The Yellow Army has won all their home matches at the Chepauk, their home ground and looks ominous for the opponents. On Tuesday, CSK locked horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
KKR were the table- toppers and the Super Kings defeated them by seven wickets and moved to the top of the points table in this IPL. Their bowlers have arguably been the best in the tournament, especially the spinners, who have been hard to get away. In the batting department too, someone or the other have always put their hands up to take the team to a commanding position.
CSK’s next encounter is against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur. In their first meeting in Chennai, CSK cam out trumps in a closely-fought encounter. Also based on current form, the visitors tend to be the favourites. However, they haven’t won at the venue for quite a few seasons now.
In the meantime, CSK have to deal with one player in order to emerge victorious once again and that’s leg spinner Shreyas Gopal, who has been a tough nut to crack in the games he has played. He hasn’t given the batsmen much to deal with and also got wickets frequently.
Record against the opposition (CSK) in the IPL:
4-0-20-3 in 2018
3-0-23-0 in 2019
Record at the venue (Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur):
Last 4 games in Jaipur:
In Twenty20s in 2019 – 21 wickets from 36.4 at an average of 10.62
In the IPL 2019 – 8 wickets from 16 overs at an average of 12.75
The leg-spinner costs 8.5 credits in the bowler’s category and is picked by 72% of teams. He is picking up wickets at regular intervals. Making him the vice-captain can also be risked bearing in mind his form.
