With an eye on bouncing back from a dismal last season, Mumbai Indians will host the Delhi Capitals in their first game of the season on Sunday (March 24) at the Wankhede Stadium. Despite being the defending champions last year, Mumbai Indians, the three-time IPL winners, had struggled to deliver.

They had managed just a couple of wins from the first seven games. The Rohit Sharma-led side did manage to turn things around for a while in the second half but it was too late by then. They eventually finished at fifth position after managing just 6 wins from 14 outings.

Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, endured another terrible season last year. The first half of the season saw their skipper Gautam Gambhir stepping down from the post after the team managed just one win from the first six games. Shreyas Iyer took over as captain midway and guided the Capitals to four more wins but it made little difference as the national capital-based outfit finished with the wooden spoon again.

Statistically, the upcoming game is between David and Goliath. While Mumbai Indians are one of the most decorated teams in the history of the league, Delhi Capitals are exactly on the opposite end of the spectrum. While Mumbai Indians are the first and one of the only two teams so far to have won the IPL thrice, Delhi are the only side to have never qualified for the final.

Delhi, however, could spring a surprise this season after assembling a formidable squad. Mumbai, on the other hand, are entering the contest after losing Adam Milne just a couple of days ago.

How will be the weather in Mumbai?

While the fans are set to see the full game without any rain-interruption, the temperature could make things a bit uncomfortable for them as well as the players. The temperature will hover around the lower side of the 30s while the humidity will be on the lower side of 40s. It will stay hazy throughout the game and might get cooler at the back end of the contest.
