The Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will be the last two teams to open the account in this edition of the Indian Premier League on Monday. The Royals have a strong record at the Sawai Mansingh stadium and their opponents have never won a game at the venue. Moreover, the hosts have got Steve Smith back in their line-up and that should bolster their batting a lot.
However, the key player for them and the focus will definitely be on Jos Buttler. The decision to promote him to open mid-way through the season was a masterclass. He went on to smash five half-centuries on a trot and almost all of them were in the winning cause. Single-handedly, he took the Royals into the playoffs and this time too, Buttler will be hoping to be consistent and if he hits the purple patch, Rajasthan will be the team to watch out for.
Record against the opposition (KXIP):
Jos Buttler has a brilliant record against the KXIP. He has amassed 243 runs against the opponents at an exceptional average of 48.6 and has crossed the fifty-run mark thrice. His scores while batting against Ravi Ashwin’s Punjab read: 82, 51, 77, 9, 24
Record at the venue (Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur):
Buttler has a mixed record at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. While he has struggled a lot batting in the middle-order, his scores of 95* and 82 while opening the innings makes the England wicket-keeper a huge threat for any team. His scores while batting in the middle-order read: 10, 6, 24*, 29.
Buttler is coming into the IPL with some amazing form in international cricket. He was in the Caribbean shores recently and slammed a brilliant 150 in an ODI against the home side. If only the T20s are concerned, he has scored three half-centuries in last six innings.
Last 6 innings across all formats – 23, 150, 34, 4*, 56, 67
Last 6 innings in T20 cricket – 5, 18, 55, 23, 89, 63
Though Jos Buttler costs 10.5 Credits in Dream11, he is worth having in the team. He will not disappoint more often while opening the innings and could be a brute force in Jaipur. Surprisingly, he has only been picked by 41% teams at the moment.
