The Mumbai Indians (MI), who are coming off an emphatic win over the Chennai Super Kings, have set their eyes firm on one of the top two spots. The team has been playing some excellent cricket this season and all the players are complementing each other well. For their next encounter, they will be in the ‘City of Joy’ to face the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The Mumbai players are finding the right form at the right time. Skipper Rohit Sharma led the team from the front in the last encounter and has been brilliant with his captaincy. A potential spin pitch is likely to greet them at the Eden Gardens and there might not be many changes they’d prefer to make.

Here is the Predicted Playing XI for the Mumbai Indians (MI):

Openers (Quinton de Kock (wk), Rohit Sharma (c))

Quinton de Kock has been one of the brilliant performers for MI this season. No one from the Mumbai camp scored more runs than the South African. He accrued 393 runs thus far but missed out in the last game against CSK. Deepak Chahar managed to find his edge early on and dismissed him for just 15 runs. A lot better will be expected of him in the next game.

Rohit Sharma struck back to form in the last encounter. He often got off to starts in the tournament but has failed to convert them into his scores more often than not. The skipper, however, didn’t repeat his mistakes and made sure that he made enough of an impact. The 31-year-old scored 67 runs from 48 balls in the last game and will want to carry on from where he left off in the last match.

Middle Order (Evin Lewis, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard)

Evin Lewis hasn’t made much of an impact in his maiden IPL game this season. He took 30 balls to score 32 runs. However, it was to be kept in mind that he played on a difficult surface and out of his usual position. Thus, he might get another opportunity in the upcoming encounter.

Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t been at his best as yet this season. He will be playing against his former franchise and has played a good amount of cricket at the Eden Gardens. Yadav didn’t get an opportunity to bat in the last game. Kieron Pollard scored 13 runs from 12 balls against CSK. He couldn’t really finish well as the ball wasn’t coming on to the bat.

All Rounders (Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Anukul Roy)

Even though Krunal Pandya missed out with the bat in the last match, he was terrific with the ball. Looking at the turn that was on offer, Rohit Sharma asked him to open the bowling. He responded beautifully to this call. The southpaw picked up two wickets in the three overs that he bowled and conceded just 7 runs.

Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, was good with the bat and provided his team with the final impetus. He hit a six and a four in the last over and remained unbeaten on 23. The all-rounder also dismissed Suresh Raina. The U19 sensation Anukul Roy got his debut and was impressive straightaway. He picked up one wicket in his two overs and gave away 11 runs. Since there is turn on offer at the Eden, he might get another opportunity.

Bowlers (Rahul Chahar, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah)

Rahul Chahar has been extraordinary for the Mumbai Indians this season. He’s adjusted to different conditions really well and bowled with a lot of intent. The leg-spinner, however, failed to pick any wickets at the Chepauk. Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah will be the two pacers in this line-up.

Malinga has been great at the death and picked up two of his four wickets in just one over towards the end. He continues to be one of the strengths of this bowling line-up while Bumrah is equally good at the other end. The Indian pacer picked up two wickets in three overs in the last match.
