Rohit Sharma once again led from the front as Mumbai Indians proved their title credentials with a thumping win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday. The odds were firmly stacked against Mumbai as they were taking the defending champions at a venue where the latter had not lost a single game this season. However, it made little difference as Mumbai went on to crush the reigning IPL champions to inflict the first home defeat on them this season.

The game did not start on the best of notes for Mumbai as skipper Rohit lost the toss. In-form Quinton de Kock then departed cheaply. However, Rohit held firm from one end and went on to lay the platform for a good and competitive total by smashing 67 runs from 48 balls. Evin Lewis and Hardik Pandya also played fine little cameos with the bat as Mumbai posted 155 for 4.

In reply, Super Kings’ batting lineup fell like a pack of cards in the absence of their talismanic skipper MS Dhoni. Barring the recalled Murali Vijay (38), none of the other top-order batsmen provided another resistance whatsoever as Mumbai bowled them out for just 109 and won the game by 46 runs. The win was Mumbai’s 7th of the season in 11 outings as they took another big step towards the playoffs.

Unsurprisingly, the mood in the Mumbai camp is positive at the moment and Pandya’s tweet soon after the game pretty much showed it. Delighted with the win, the all-rounder took to Twitter to hail the ‘amazing win’ while also stating that his captain ‘Hitman’ should now join superheroes’ squad, Avengers.

“Time for the Hitman to join the Avengers 😜 Amazing win in Chennai 💥,” wrote Pandya.

Mumbai Indians’ agree:

Mumbai Indians’ official Twitter handle was quick to react to Pandya’s suggestion as they agreed that their skipper should now join the Avengers.

“#Endgame 😋,” wrote Mumbai Indians.
