The Mumbai Indians team has made it into its fifth IPL final, when they beat Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier that was played in Chennai on May 7. The Mukesh Ambani owned team has previously won the tournament in 2013, 2015 and 2019 and will be vying for their record fourth title when they play the winner of the second qualifier between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings on May 10.

Apart from Mumbai, CSK is the only team to win the title three times. However, MI has had to overcome multiple obstacles in their IPL 2019 journey thanks to injuries to their fast bowlers, foreign ones specifically. First Adam Milne ruled himself out of the tournament with a heel injury and as a replacement, West Indies’ Alzarri Joseph was called upon. He experienced both the highs and lows of the tournament within a week of his debut before a shoulder injury ended his sojourn.

MI to release Joseph only after he gets fit

Alzarri Joseph made an amazing debut in IPL 2019, in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, as he picked an all-time IPL record bowling haul of 6/12. He beat Sohail Tanvir’s record of 6/14, set in the first season of the tournament. However, he was brought back onto Earth in the second game he played, as Jos Buttler of Rajasthan Royals got stuck into him and he conceded over 50 runs in just 3 overs.

During this match, Joseph dislocated his bowling shoulder while diving to stop a boundary and later scans revealed that the injury would require surgery and his IPL 2019 had come to an end. Now it has been reported by India Today.in that the Mumbai Indians franchise is going to take care of Joseph’s surgery, rehabilitation and other issues here in Mumbai itself and will release the bowler once he gets fit, which might take up to 5-6 months.

“He has been in Mumbai throughout and his situation was assessed and the surgery was done on April 30. He is currently recovering and has no movement on the shoulder as it is strapped. One of his family members is here to stay by his side. All his treatment and rehab will be taken care of by MI. He will be shifting to the MI guest house in Navi Mumbai and continue physiotherapy for the next two to three months at the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital”, an MI representative was quoted as saying.

“After this, he will undergo rehab and hit the ground at the Mumbai Indians academy. It should ideally take around four to five months and even his family member shall stay with him during this phase,” the source said.
