There is still some time left before the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gets underway. However, it has not stopped the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) to set up the tone. Both the franchises had a go at each other on Twitter on Tuesday (February 19) after the BCCI announced the schedule of the forthcoming season. The Royals will be hosting the Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in their tournament on March 25.

Both the teams especially, the Kings XI, will be eyeing a good show in the upcoming season, having not tasted much success. Royals have not made it to the final since winning the title in the first season. They returned to the league last year after serving a two-year suspension and did well to make it to the playoffs.

On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab are one of the only three teams to have never won the competition. Their best performance came in 2014 when the team made it to the final before losing to Kolkata Knight Riders. Since then they have failed to make it to the playoffs.

Royals’ fitting response

Well, it looks like both the teams are raring to go in the much-awaited twelfth edition of the league and their banter on Twitter pretty much proved that. It all began with Kings XI Punjab tweeting a picture of their fixtures on Twitter. It was not the end as they took a shot at the Royals, writing, “Feeling Pink aren’t we, @rajasthanroyals? Let’s hope an encounter with us in our #IPL2019 opener doesn’t leave you red-faced.”

Royals, on the other hand, were in no mood to let the Kings XI get away with it as they reminded the Punjab-based team of their poor performance in Jaipur. “Hey @lionsdenkxip, we’ll save you the blushes, considering you’ve never won in Jaipur. History is quite comforting, isn’t it?,” wrote the Royals. The fans will have to wait until March 25 to see which team has the last laugh as both the teams will open their account against each other.
