The 34th fixture of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League witnessed a nail-biting thriller between the three-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the table-toppers Delhi Capitals (DC). The Super Kings have had a troubled campaign thus far and were desperately looking for a win to be significantly present in the race to the playoffs. After their win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the last fixture, the franchise would have fancied carrying some confidence. But the MS Dhoni-led team lost the match after coming close to the victory in the final over.

Batting first, the Yellow Army racked up a score of 179 on the board. It was a combined effort by the Yellow Army as Faf du Plessis scored another half-century (58 off 47) and stitched a partnership with Shane Watson who went back to the pavilion after a knock of 36 off 28. Ambati Rayudu also played a quickfire inning of not out 45 off 25 deliveries while Ravindra Jadeja played a sensational cameo of 33 not out off 13 balls, to take their team towards a respectable total. As far as the bowling is concerned, Anrich Nortje took two wickets while Tushar Deshpande and Kagiso Rabada had one each to their name.

Shikhar Dhawan brings in his maiden IPL century

Involved in a tough run chase, the whole credit of DC’s victory undoubtedly goes to their opening left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan. While the wickets were falling from one end, Dhawan stood firm on another side to score his maiden IPL ton. Showing his class, Shikhar aggregated 101 off 58 deliveries including 14 fours and 1 six, a knock that had to be seen to be believed.

Axar Patel also deserves a notable mention as he smashed Ravindra Jadeja for three sixes in the last over of the game to take DC home. DC needed 17 runs off the last six deliveries and Jadeja had to bowl the over as Dwayne Bravo was injured and couldn’t be present on the field.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) have been going really well in this edition of the tournament. They managed to pull off an inspirational win against CSK in a tough run-chase by 5 wickets.
