A lot was at stake as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns against Delhi Capitals (DC) on November 2 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Winning the game by 6 wickets, DC ensured that they got a Top 2 finish to have one extra match for the finals. While losing the match with just 6 balls to spare was a relief for the Bangalore outfit as they confirmed a spot in the play-offs due to a better run-rate than Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Winning the toss, captain Shreyas Iyer made an obvious choice of fielding first. Just like their previous three fixtures, RCB’s batting line-up again disappointed and floundered after standing at a decent score at the end of the first 10 overs with 60/1. Kagiso Rabada shrugged off his powerplay woes as he gave the first breakthrough to Capitals by taking the wicket of Josh Philippe in the fifth over of the evening.

Apart from Devdutt Padikkal, who smashed 50 off 41 deliveries, no other batsman could convert his innings into a big score despite getting a good start. Though Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers looked promising in the middle, the two lost their wickets cheaply after scoring 29 and 35 runs respectively. Thus, the Challengers managed to score an average score of 152 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

Ajinkya Rahane smashes his maiden IPL 2020 half-century

Rabada and Anrich Nortje were the pick of the bowlers for Delhi Capitals as they took two and three scalps respectively. Ravichandran Ashwin was also stunning with the ball as he took one big wicket of Kohli while bowling at an economy of 4.5.

Capitals had an explosive start as the opening duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw smashed 11 runs to Chris Morris in the first over. DC got its first hiccup in the form of Shaw who was playing at 9. However, the experienced duo of Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane put up a near 100-run stand to take the team to victory.

Rahane smashed 60 off 46 while Shikhar also completed his half-century (54 off 41). Though in the middle overs, RCB spinners took some crucial wickets, it was too late as DC easily chased down the target of 153 with 6 balls to spare.
