The last league match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) saw Sunrisers Hyderabad registering a clinical victory in a must-win match against Mumbai Indians at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Men in Blue and Gold were outplayed in all the departments in the clash. With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad cemented a place in the playoffs and will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the knockout match on November 6.

Toss went David Warner’s way and he made the obvious choice of fielding. The star-studded batting line-up of Mumbai didn’t have any answers to the questions posed by the opposition bowlers. MI had a shaky start as both the openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock were sent back to the pavilion by seamer Sandeep Sharma.

Though Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan tried to stitch a partnership in the middle, they struggled to get going. A cameo by power-hitter Kieron Pollard at the fag end of the innings (41 off 25 deliveries) ensured that Mumbai get to a respectable total of 149 for 8 in their 20 overs.

Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowler for the Orange Army with a stunning spell of 4-0-34-3. Jason Holder and Shahbaz Nadeem were equally impressive with the ball as they took two wickets each.

David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha script victory for SRH

Chasing 150, Sunrisers had an outstanding start as the in-form opening duo of David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha started firing from the very first ball. The absence of two main bowlers of MI namely Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult made things easier for SRH. Warner and Saha collected 56 runs in the mandatory power play to show their intent of winning this game.

What followed was the domination of these two batsmen on the 22-yard pitch. The captain smashed 85* off 58 deliveries including 10 fours and 1 six at a strike rate of 146.55 to take his team home. Wriddhiman was also brilliant with the willow as he brought in his half-century (58* runs) in 45 deliveries. Saha’s knock included 7 fours and 1 six at a strike rate of 128.89. Thus, SRH easily chased down the target of 150 with 17 balls to spare by 10 wickets.

This win against Mumbai resulted in Hyderabad climbing the third spot in the points table with 14 points and ending the hopes of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) of making it to the playoffs.
