The Match 26 of the on-going IPL 2020 witnessed two Australia stalwarts– David Warner and Sunrisers Hyderabad– locking horns with each other at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Smith-led Royals, in dire need of a victory, were bolstered by the return of all-rounder Ben Stokes in the Playing XI. SRH, meanwhile, decided to provide an out-of-form Vijay Shankar with another opportunity.

After amassing 158 on the board and scalping early wickets of RR, the Orange Army was looking like the winner of the contest. However, Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag turned the tide with their late fireworks. Stitching a match-winning 85-run partnership, the Tewatia-Parag duo stole the show and snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, SRH flagged off their innings with their usual Warner-Bairstow opening pair. Royals’ young gun Kartik Tyagi provided them with the first breakthrough by dismissing Bairstow on 16. After suffering an early blow, SRH’s ship was steadied by skipper Warner and Manish Pandey.

While Warner scored 48 off 38 deliveries, Pandey stitched a 44-ball 54 to keep the scoreboard ticking. The pair stitched a 73-run stand in the middle. In the end, Kane Williamson and youngster Priyam Garg hit multiple boundaries to help SRH cross the 150-run mark. Williamson smashed 22 off 12 and Garg scored 15 off just 8, providing SRH with vital runs in death overs.

In response, RR started off their run-chase with an experimental opening duo. Stokes was assigned the opening duties along with Jos Buttler. The English all-rounder did hit a boundary in the first over but he failed to make it big. Stokes was dismissed in the second over by Khaleel Ahmed. Trying to pull it away, Stokes only managed to get a thick inside edge and the ball went on to shake the timber.

Rahul Tewatia to the rescue, yet again

After Stokes’ departure, Buttler and skipper Smith tried to build a partnership in the middle. However, RR’s top-order failed to fire off yet again. Buttler and Smith were sent back to the dugout at 16 and 5 respectively.

Trying to keep RR in the game, Robin Uthappa (18) and Sanju Samson (26) played crucial cameos. However, in-form Rashid Khan spew his spin magic in this game too. Scalping wickets of both the right-handers, the Afghanistan stalwart put SRH in the driving seat.

However, there still was a twist in the tale. It was Rahul Tewatia who donned the Superman cape once again for the Royals. Hitting 45 off just 28 deliveries, Tewatia smashed 4 fours and 2 sixes to shift the game in RR’s favour. Riyan Parag also rose to the occasion and slammed a 26-ball 42 to guide RR towards the target. Parag hit the final nail in the coffin and slammed Khaleel Ahmed for a six as RR clinched the encounter by 5 wickets.
