It’s been more than three months since the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end. However, the grind doesn’t stop for the franchise owners and the management. The trade window is open and there are a few transfers that have already taken place.

Moreover, teams will be reviewing their previous season, captains, players, and support staff – everyone involved will be reviewed. Hence, every year there are teams which change captains and support staff apart from their playing squad. Already a few teams have changed their support staff for the upcoming season. Next year may not be any different. Thus, here are three teams that may get new captains in the IPL next year.

1. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) started afresh in 2018. Ravichandran Ashwin was picked up from the auction for INR 7.6 crores and was made the captain of the side. A lot of expected from the Tamil Nadu off-spinner. However, the last couple of years have been nothing but disappointing for the Punjab franchise.

In the last two seasons, KXIP have won six games each and were just one win away from reaching the playoffs. However, they couldn’t make it as they just seem to lose gas as the tournament moves towards the business end. Ashwin has led the side decently but he doesn’t have the results to back him up as KXIP finished seventh and sixth in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Moreover, his form with the ball has also dipped in the last couple of years.

Hence, KXIP are already contemplating a change in captaincy. In fact, reports suggest that KL Rahul might take over as the captain. Moreover, Ashwin may not even remain with KXIP. He may either be traded or sent back into the auction pool. Thus, KXIP is most likely going to have a new captain next season.
