After each and every IPL auction, the cricket fraternity has seen unknown players become overnight crorepatis or millionaires. Over the past decade in the lucrative Indian Premier League, we have seen several unknown young players realising their dreams on auction day as all the eight franchises battle out among each other during the bidding war.

The recently-concluded mega IPL auction 2020 in Kolkata witnessed quite a few notable signings. However, the auction also saw some unpredictable deals. Such players, who are relatively unknown at the international level, can emerge as top-performers in the upcoming season due to their unpredictability.

Let’s take a look at the five unknown players who got bids in the auction:

1. Digvijay Deshmukh

The 21-year-old all-rounder Digvijay Deshmukh set his base price at 20 lakhs ahead of the IPL auction and he was sold to four-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians for the same amount. The uncapped player will be looking forward to making his presence count on the pitch by adding a new dimension to batting and bowling attack.

Digvijay Deshmukh made his Twenty20 debut for Maharashtra in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. After that, he made his first-class debut for Maharashtra in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy.

Besides playing cricket, he made his appearance in Bollywood film ‘Kai Po Che’ in the year 2013. He portrayed the role of 14-year-old Ali Hashmi, a child cricketer, around whom the plot of Sushant Singh, Rajkumar Rao, Amit Sadh-starrer movie revolved.

He has played one first-class match in his career where he picked six wickets in two innings and registered his best bowling figures of 4/46. He has also played seven T20 matches and has picked 7 wickets to his name. His career-best bowling figures in this format is 3/34.
