IPL 2020: Aakash Chopra pissed after netizens blame DC for ‘purposely’ delaying their victory against RCB

On Monday, November 2, Delhi Capitals (DC) beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets to seal their playoffs berth for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Not only did they make the second round, Shreyas Iyer and Co also got into the top two, meaning that they will get two shots at the final. DC will be locking horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Qualifier 1 in Dubai.

The Capitals needed to score 132 runs to make the playoffs and they did it without breaking a sweat. Virat Kohli’s Challengers also qualified, but they will have to win three games in a row to win their maiden IPL title. The Red Army would now be facing either Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), led by Eoin Morgan or the David Warner-captained Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Eliminator.

In the meantime, Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer, wasn’t a happy man by any means. The veterans questioned the netizens for blaming the Capitals for purposely delaying their win in Abu Dhabi. Had DC accomplished the target in 17.3 overs, RCB would have slipped down to fourth in the table. In that scenario, it would also have ensured qualification for the Knight Riders.

Chopra reckoned that DC had no reason to achieve the target with 15 balls left in the game. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Reading a lot of stuff about #DelhiCapitals purposely not winning the game inside 17.3 overs. May I please know what was in it for them to even attempt that feat??! Doosro ki diwali kharab karne ke chakkar mein Bahut log khud lut jate hain. #IPL2020.”

For the time being, all eyes will be on the match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and SRH on Tuesday, November 3 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Irrespective of the result of the match, Kieron Pollard’s MI would be playing in the Qualifier 1 on November 5.

However, SRH and KKR’s fates hang by a thread. If the Sunrisers beat MI, they would knock the Knights out of the tournament and qualify for the playoffs. Both SRH and KKR will then end on 14 points with the former going through on a superior net run rate.
