Jofra Archer is no mug with the bat, having also opened the batting for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). However, since the experiment didn’t quite work, he was pushed down the order. However, the Royals may just think about giving him a promotion after what he did to Chennai Super Kings’ Lungi Ngidi in the fourth match of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Archer came to bat after Sam Curran got rid of Steve Smith, who turned up with 69 useful runs as an opener. He picked up a single to retain strike for the first ball of the 20th over. After Sanju Samson and Smith got out, the Royals were pushed back to some extent. But Archer had other ideas as he laid into Ngidi with all his might. In the final over, Ngidi ended up conceding a staggering 30 runs.

Jofra Archer at his very best

Archer started the over with a humongous blow over the long-off region. In the next ball, Lungi shortened his length, but to no avail. Archer churned out the pull stroke and cleared the boundary with utmost comfort. Ngidi would want to forget what happened thereafter as he ended up bowling two no-balls and on both instances, Archer deposited him into the stands with authority.

Lungi tried to redeem himself and conceded a wide, making it 27 off the first two balls. The young South African bowler had no clue about what was going on. Archer ended his innings on 27 off eight balls with the help of four fours. On the back off the late onslaught, the Royals put up a significant 216 for seven in their 20 overs. Archer, well and truly, gave RR the much-needed momentum.

In the last four overs, Lungi made some sort of an amends as he gave away only three singles. However, by then, the damage had already been done. He conceded 30 runs and equaled the record for the most runs conceded in the 20th over in the history of the IPL. Ngidi gave away as many as 56 in his quota of four overs. For the Royals, Samson also did his job, scoring a 32-ball 74.
