Rajasthan Royals (RR) tasted their first defeat in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After recording the highest-ever run-chase in the history of the tournament against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Steve Smith and Co went down to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 37 runs.

At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Royals were restricted to 137 for nine in their 20 overs. After winning the toss and electing to field, very few things went right for RR as the Knights amassed a substantial 174 for the loss of six wickets.

In their run-chase, Smith’s men lost wickets at pretty regular intervals and could never get any sort of momentum. The Royals losing meant that each of the eight participating teams have lost at least one match in the cash-rich T20 tournament.

Here are the KKR Player Ratings for the RR vs KKR match:

Shubman Gill- 8.5/10

Shubman Gill was again in full flow after his match-winning 70 against SRH. He played more than half-the-duration of the Knights’ innings and scored 47 runs off 34 balls. His knock was laced with five fours and a six. Jofra Archer got rid of him in the 12th over when Shubman got a leading edge.

Sunil Narine- 4/10

Sunil Narine clobbered Jaydev Unadkat for a four and a six off consecutive balls. However, the pacer rattled his woodwork with a slower delivery. The left-hander could only score 15 runs off 14 balls. With the ball, he wasn’t at his best, conceding 40 runs, though he got Shreyas Gopal’s wicket.

Nitish Rana- 7/10

Nitish Rana was fluent in his brief cameo of 22 runs off 17 balls. He came to bat after Narine’s dismissal and he started finding the middle of the bat. The left-hander was also involved in a 46-run partnership with Gill. The southpaw fell prey to leg-spinner Rahul Tewatia while going for a big shot.

Andre Russell- 8/10

Andre Russell was quiet in the first two games, he gave a glimpse of his brutal self this time around. He smashed three colossal sixes and scored 24 off 14 balls. To the Royals’ relief, Ankit Rajpoot got him out when the batter tried to clear the point region. Dre Russ didn’t get a chance to bowl though.

Dinesh Karthik- 3/10

Dinesh Karthik hasn’t had the best of times with the bat in hand. The KKR captain came to bat at four and tasted another failure. The right-hander got out for a single digit against SRH and it wasn’t any different even against the Royals. Archer found his outside-edge with a ball that shaped a tad away.

Eoin Morgan- 8.5/10

Eoin Morgan carried on from where he left against SRH. He came to bat in the 14th over when the Knights needed someone to inject momentum into the innings in the death overs. The left-handed batter scored 34 off 23 balls with one four and couple of sixes and went on to stay unbeaten.

Pat Cummins- 9.5/10

Pat Cummins smashed Archer for a four to start his job in the game. He scored 12 off 10 balls in a 34-run stand with Eoin Morgan. Tom Curran dismissed him in the end. With the ball, the speedster accounted for Steve Smith’s wicket. Also in his three overs, Cummins gave 13 runs with 12 dots.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti- 9.5/10

Kamlesh Nagarkoti bowled only two overs and he didn’t flatter to deceive by any stretch of the imagination. In his very first over, the pacer pinned Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag. It was also his first wickets in the IPL after he went wicketless against SRH. He didn’t get to complete his quota.

Shivam Mavi- 9.5/10

Shivam Mavi picked up, most probably, two of the Royals’ batters, who could have caused a lot of damage. He picked up Sanju Samson, who miscued one to Sunil Narine. In his very next over, the right-arm speedster got Jos Buttler. In four overs, Mavi gave away 20 runs with 13 dot deliveries.

Kuldeep Yadav- 8.5/10

Kuldeep Yadav was brought into the bowling attack very late, but he did his job with precision. After not being able to pick up a wicket against SRH and MI, the Chinaman bowler opened his account against the Royals, getting Unadkat’s wicket. In his three overs, the tweaker gave only 20 runs.

Varun Chakravarthy- 9/10

Varun Chakravarthy had another decent day on the field. He opened his wickets’ tally with the crucial wicket of Rahul Tewatia, who was looking dangerous. Then he got rid of Archer, who can also do a lot of damage with the bat in hand. In four overs, Varun conceded only 25 runs at a rate of 6.25.
