The season opener of IPL 2020 couldn’t have flagged off in a better way for three times champion Chennai Super Kings. The first match of the 13th season of IPL saw a fight between CSK and Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians, where the former registered a thumping victory by five-wickets. With the Yellow Army stealing away glory in the first match, it ended its five-match losing streak against arch-rivals MI.
Now MS Dhoni and company are all set to lock horns with Rajasthan Royals in their second match on September 22. With most of the players performing decently well in the first match of the season, the squad is unlikely to see a major change.
However, with Caribbean all-rounder DJ Bravo not in the squad in the last match, it raised many eyebrows. Later, he was revealed to be injured and will form part of the subsequent matches.
In the same light, let’s look at the predicted playing of the Super Kings in the RR vs CSK macth: –
Openers (Murali Vijay, Shane Watson)
Though both the openers couldn’t make a mark in the first match of the IPL, they are expected to come up better in the subsequent matches. Though Murali Vijay has been part of the one or two games in the last two years of IPL, he is expected to come out well owing to his past records.
Shane Watson has shown some decent form in previous years, but his performance in the finale of 2019 IPL will always be lauded in times to come. Though both the opening batsmen couldn’t do much against the lethal bowling attack of Trent Boult and James Pattinson, they are expected to make amends. They will probably be part of the playing XI in the team’s second match.
Middle-order (Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav)
The South African who stunned the opponents in the last match with his unbeaten knock of 58 runs will most likely form part of the playing XI against Rajasthan. Apart from displaying class with the willow, he was incredibly fit on the field and took two amazing catches near the boundary line.
If the credit goes to people who pulled the team from 6/2 to a thumping victory over MI, Rayudu has to be the top man. Playing a thunderous knock of 71 off 48 balls, he shifted the entire momentum of the game, and owing to last performance, he will be set be part of playing XI for the next match.
The skipper and backbone of the team for years, MS Dhoni, came a little lower down the order in the last match. But he is always expected to and has given a good strength to the team while handling the middle-order. How can the skipper not be expected to form part of the playing XI for the match against RR!
Though Jadhav didn’t get the chance to show up with the bat in the last match, he can be expected to be a part of playing XI for CSK again in the next match. He has some capacities with the ball too and may get a chance in that section as well.
All-rounder (Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran)
Though Jadeja wasn’t much economical with the ball in the last match, he knocked out two essentials in the form of Hardik Pandya and Saurabh Tiwary. He also contributed with a five-ball 10 in the match and will most likely form part of the playing XI in the next match.
Sam Curran’s cameo of 18 runs in six balls became too significant in accelerating the chasing rhythm of the CSK. He also remained perfect with the ball by sending off MI’s significant Quinton de Kock. Keeping all this in mind, he can definitely be part of the playing squad against the Rajasthan Royals.
Bowlers (Piyush Chawla, Deepak Chahar, Lungi Ngidi)
The newly roped in Piyush Chawla played his role in the match against Mumbai Indians. He scalped the wicket of opposition skipper Rohit Sharma and remained much economical by conceding just 21 runs in four overs. Leading the spin-attack brilliantly, he is most likely to get in the playing XI.
The man who is considered the best with the new ball, Deepak Chahar, played his role decently well in the last match against Mumbai. He also named two dismissals to his credit to get his team going in the game. With all his consistency over the time, he will, most probably, land up in the playing XI of CSK against RR.
The young pace sensation of CSK, Lungi Ngidi, did his work efficiently for the team. He scalped three wickets, though he was a tad expensive. In the same light, he is much likely to be part of the playing XI of the Yellow Army against the Rajasthan franchise.
