Nicholas Pooran has had a reasonable campaign in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He started the tournament, bagging a duck against the Delhi Capitals (DC) after being cleaned up with veteran spinner Ravi Ashwin. However, ever since then, the left-hander has threatened with some decent scores under his belt. He, currently, has 119 from five games at an average of 29.75.

He also had a decent time against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. He came to bat at number four after Ravindra Jadeja got rid of Mandeep Singh. Pooran didn’t die wondering and scored 33 runs off 17 balls. His knock was laced with one four and three sixes. Fast bowler Shardul Thakur cut short his stay in the middle.

Nicholas Pooran’s efforts of no avail

But his efforts went in vain as KXIP lost the match by 10 wickets despite posing a decent 178 for four in their 20 overs. It was also the first time, a chasing team managed to win in Dubai in IPL 2020 after seven losses in succession. In the meantime, one of Pooran’s old tweets is doing the rounds on social media. The tweet was dropped way back in October 4, 2013.

Pooran had taken to Twitter and written, “Is there a better birthday gift than beating chennai super kings?” On Friday, October 2, Pooran turned 25 years old.

Here’s the tweet:

As far as the match was concerned, Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson stole the show in CSK’s run-chase. The duo put on 181 runs for the opening wicket off a mere 17.4 overs. In the powerplay, they scored 46 runs and once they got their eyes in, there was no stopping them. The Punjab bowlers had absolutely no answer to the questions posed by the belligerent CSK openers.

Du Plessis carried on with his rich vein of form in the tournament. He notched 87 runs off 53 balls with the help of 11 fours and a six. Watson, on the other hand, wasn’t having the greatest of outings in the tournaments. However, even he returned to form, scoring 83 off 53 with 11 fours and three sixes.
