IPL 2020: 'Superman' MS Dhoni defies age; pulls off a magical catch to dismiss Shivam Mavi

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, after registering an impressive 10-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab, arrived at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, with an aim to continue their winning momentum. The Chennai side locked horns with Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 21 of the on-going IPL 2020.

After losing the toss, Chennai had to field first. But that didn’t stop the CSK bowling unit to deliver an impressive performance. The Yellow Army wrapped up KKR for a modest 167-run total, with their bowlers rising to the occasion and denting KKR’s run-flow by scalping wickets at regular intervals.

Along with a robust bowling display, CSK put up an impressive fielding show too. One of the best fielders in international cricket, Ravindra Jadeja took a breathtaking mid-air catch of Sunil Narine in the 11th over. The all-rounder, while fielding near the ropes at mid-wicket, ran to his right and plucked the catch in the air. Realising that he would end up touching the rope, Jadeja flaunted brilliant presence of mind to pass the ball to Faf du Plessis, who was present beside him.

Chennai’s majestic fielding gig didn’t end there as skipper Dhoni also pulled off a spectacular catch behind the stumps. On the penultimate delivery of the innings, Dwayne Bravo bowled a fullish one outside off to Shivam Mavi. The ball got a thick outside edge off Mavi’s swing and flew towards Dhoni’s right.

The skipper only had one glove as he wanted to deny KKR any bye run. Trying to leap to his right and pluck the catch, Dhoni ended up lobbing it with his hand which was without the glove. However, defying his age, Dhoni strode further and leapt to complete the stunning catch. Twitter, in no time, was flooded with praise for Dhoni’s spectacular effort.

Chennai bowling force was at its best against KKR as all their bowlers apart from Deepak Chahar scalped at least one wicket. Dwayne Bravo emerged as the most successful bowler by taking three wickets. Sam Curran, Karn Sharma and Shardul Thakur also joined the show by scalping two wickets each, restricting KKR to a moderate total.

It was an excellent day at the office for Dhoni too. He overall took four catches and pulled off a run-out against the Men in Purple. After putting up a strong bowling and fielding performance, CSK will be expecting a match-winning show from their batsmen too. Considering the current form of their openers– Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis– CSK are in pole position to clinch the encounter and grab two crucial points to go up the points table.
