The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick start on April 9, when the Royal Challengers Bangalore take on the Mumbai Indians and it promises to be an exciting game featuring some top cricketers. Over the years, the league has helped improve the T20 format, which has also helped revolutionize cricket.

The game has become a lot more attacking and batting friendly and we are seeing scores that were unheard of before. Scoring a 100 in T20s was considered to be quite a difficult task, but now we see quite a few players achieving that milestone.

Recently, we have even seen double centuries in the 50-over format and if things continue to go this way, we might even see a 200 in the shortest format of the game. There will be several destructive batsmen in action during the IPL this season and here’s a look at 5 of them that could potentially do the impossible by scoring a double century.

5 Players who can score a double ton in IPL 2021

 1. David Warner

David Warner has been one of the best and most consistent batsmen in the history of the league and has played some scintillating knocks over the years. The Australian opener is very destructive and usually doesn’t take any time to settle down at the crease.

He has 48 fifties and four centuries, showing that he knows a thing or two about getting big scores. His highest score of 126 came against KKR in 2017. He is no stranger to scoring big runs as evident by his highest Test match score of 335 and even ODI score of 179.

In his IPL career, he has scored 5254 runs in 142 games at an average of 42.71 while striking at 141.54. Given his ability to play for long periods of time while also being extremely aggressive, he has a pretty good chance of scoring a double century when compared to the others.

 2. Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is arguably the best batsman in the history of T20 cricket and his impact on this format has been second to none. He is quite devastating at the top of the order and has been terrorizing bowlers throughout his career. The fact that he hasn’t slowed down even at the age of 41 shows how good he is.

He has scored 4772 runs in 132 games at an average of over 41 while having a terrific strike rate of 150.11. He has six IPL centuries to his name to go with 31 half-centuries. Gayle’s tally of 349 sixes is the highest in the history of the tournament and no one is even remotely close to him.

He even has the highest score in T20 history, which he achieved against Pune Warriors in 2012 when he smashed a sensational 175. He has also scored an ODI double century to go with a triple century in the Test format. Thus, he has a decent chance of getting a 200, and one shouldn’t doubt him in this format.

3. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma’s inclusion on this list shouldn’t be a major surprise as he has played some outstanding knocks in the limited versions of the game. He has scored a stunning three double centuries in ODIs including a record 264 against Sri Lanka back in 2014.

In 200 IPL matches, he has scored 5230 runs at an average of 31.31 while striking at 130.61. He has also cleared the boundary ropes on 213 occasions and has 39 half-centuries to his name. However, the fact that he has just one 100 is a bit surprising.

Although his IPL records over the last few years haven’t been at the same level as his performances for India. He is someone who has the ability to play big innings while also being aggressive and thus, he has a chance of accomplishing the feat.

4. AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers is one of the most aggressive batsmen in the history of the game, and he has the ability to do things that others can only dream of. His aggressiveness, range, and boundary-hitting ability are amongst the very best in the world.

He has played several stunning innings in the past and even holds the record for the fastest half-century and century in the 50-over format. He has the highest score of 176 in ODIs despite batting in the middle order and his best return in Tests is 278. Furthermore, he has three 100’s in the IPL and 38 fifties as well.

He has scored 4849 runs in 169 IPL games at an average of 40.40 while having a strike rate in excess of 150. Although he isn’t an opener like the others, he could have a shot at doing the impossible if he comes in the first or second over itself due to the fall of an early wicket.

5. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler has been one of the main reasons behind England’s recent dominance in white-ball cricket with his aggressive style of batting. Like ABD, even Buttler can play shots all around the ground and has a 360-degree range.

He has scored 1714 runs in 58 games at an average of 34.97 while striking at 149.56. The Englishman also has 11 half-centuries to his name, but it’s quite surprising that he hasn’t scored an IPL century thus far.

He also holds the record for England’s fastest ODI century, and his tally of 9 100’s in the 50-over format is quite impressive given that he bats down the order. Given the fact that he is likely to return to the top of the order this season, he can have a chance of scoring 200 in a single game if he gets going.
