Chennai Super Kings’ winning run in the IPL 2021’s UAE leg finally came to an end on Saturday (October 2). Rajasthan Royals got the better of them in Abu Dhabi and kept their playoff hopes alive. Chasing a challenging target of 190 runs, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson scored runs for fun as RR crossed the line in mere 17.1 overs, winning the game seven wickets.
From Josh Hazlewood to KM Asif, every CSK bowler was taken to cleaner. Sam Curran didn’t have a good time either. The left-arm pacer conceded 55 runs in four overs with his economy rate being 13.8. Furthermore, he failed to take a single wicket. If one has to summarize, nothing really went the England all-rounder’s way in the game.
Sam Curran and Glenn Phillips leave netizens in splits
While many of his deliveries were sent over the ropes, one of his balls started a meme fest on Twitter. It was the second ball of the 17th over, and RR were cruising towards victory. Curran then hogged the limelight with an outrageous delivery. Apparently, the ball slipped from his hand and went up. What was even more hilarious is that Glenn Phillips, the on-strike batter, ran out his crease in order to utilize the ball.

He, however, stopped after realizing the ball is not within his reach. Although this incident didn’t affect the game, it left the netizens in splits. The video got viral in no time and Curran and Phillips’ antics became the talk of the town.
Meanwhile, the ball was adjudged dead by the umpire and the game resumed. Phillips, standing in his IPL debut, scored 14 off eight deliveries and remained unbeaten till the end. The New Zealand international would be satisfied with his brief cameo and RR would want him to play some more in the upcoming matches.
Meanwhile, this win has kept RR hopes of qualifying for the playoffs alive. Sanju Samson’s men now have two more league-stage games left in the season. While they need to win both encounters, they also need to depend upon other match results. On the other hand, CSK are still sitting pretty at the top, having qualified for the playoffs.
