After an unforgettable season in the previous edition, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scripted a stunning comeback in the 14th edition of the T20 Championship. They are now placed at the second position on the IPL points table with two wins under their belt from three games. Playing in their third match at the Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai, the Super Kings registered a comfortable 45-run win over Rajasthan Royals.

Both CSK and RR showed faith over their Playing XI as they entered the contest without any changes. The match commenced with Sanju Samson winning the toss and inviting MS Dhoni & his Men to bat first. CSK lost their first wicket in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the fourth over as Mustafizur Rahman gave the first breakthrough to RR.

Then started a stunning power-hitting show by the CSK batters as they smashed the opposition bowlers for boundaries and sixes. Though RR was successful in picking wickets at regular intervals, they couldn’t control the flow of the runs as all the Super Kings players made small yet effective contributions to the scoreboard.

The combined effort by all the batters resulted in the three-time champion posting a total of 188 runs on the board in their 20 overs. For Royals, Chetan Sakariya emerged as the highest wicket-taker with his spell of 4-0-36-3. He scalped three priced wickets including the likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ambati Rayudu.

Chasing 189, the opening woes for the Royals continue as they lost their opening batsman Manan Vohra in the fourth over while he was playing at 14 off 11. Vohra was soon followed by skipper Sanju Samson to the pavilion who lost his wicket to Sam Curran. Jos Buttler looked settled in middle and tried to stitch a crucial partnership with Shivam Dube.

However, Ravindra Jadeja bowled a dream 12th over for CSK as he picked both Buttler and Dube to diminish RR’s hope of winning the contest. The England superstar fell one short of his half-century as he went back after scoring 49 off 35. Buttler’s dismissal initiated a collapse of the RR’s batting line-up as the middle-order batsmen batters came to bat only to lose their wickets quickly without adding anything substantial to the scoreboard.

The credit goes to CSK’s bowling line-up also as they kept their calm in the run-chase and didn’t let the RR batsmen get better off them.
