Kolkata Knight Riders have strengthened their hold on the fourth spot in the points table in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. On Sunday, Eoin Morgan and Co. defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets. KKR’s win means that Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians’ fate isn’t in their own hands anymore. The Sunrisers, meanwhile, keep struggle at the bottom.

KKR bowlers strangle the Sunrisers

After electing to bat first, the Sunrisers lost wickets at regular intervals and got themselves up to 115 for eight in 20 overs. Tim Southee trapped Wriddhiman Saha plumb in front to strike first blood. Jason Roy hit two fours, but couldn’t go beyond a run-a-ball. Kane Williamson looked for his 21-ball 26, but his stay came to an end after Shakib Al Hasan threw down the stumps and the bowler’s end.

Priyam Garg scored 21 with a six, but his strike rate couldn’t go beyond 67.84. Shakib, who came into the eleven in place of Tim Seifert, got Abhishek Sharma stumped. It was Abdul Samad, who injected some momentum into the SRH innings. Samad scored a handy 18-ball 25 with three sixes. Southee, Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy got two wickets apiece. Sunil Narine had an economy of three.

KKR get home comfortably

Thew Knights strained a wee bit in the first half of their run-chase. Venkatesh Iyer couldn’t survive as Jason Holder induced a false stroke from him. Rahul Tripathi couldn’t cross the single digit mark either. After the first 10 overs, the Knights were at 44 and though they had wickets in hand, the Sunrisers was seeming to make a comeback. However, KKR didn’t lose their cool and played shots.

Shubman Gill got a flurry of boundaries and racked up a half-century off 44 balls. Nitish Rana couldn’t get going as he got out to Holder. When he got out, the required rate had come down below a run-a-ball. In the penultimate over, Dinesh Karthik smacked Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a four through the point region. In the end, the Men in Gold and Purple won with two balls to spare.
