Kolkata Knight Riders, on Thursday, thrashed the Rajasthan Royals by 86 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Eoin Morgan-led side were dominating and bowled their opposition out for a mere 85 in 16.1 overs. With the win, the Knights have more or less qualified for the playoffs. Mumbai Indians have a game in hand, but it would need a miracle on their part to topple the Knights on net run rate.

Shubman Gill stands up for KKR

After being put in to bat first, the Knights were a tad circumspect to start with. Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill put on 79 runs off 71 balls to lay the platform for the innings. Rahul Tewatia broke the stand, getting rid of Iyer, who scored a 35-ball 38 with the help of three fours and two sixes. Thereafter, KKR stepped on the gas and themselves up to 171 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs.

Gill, in the meantime, scored a gutsy half-century off 40 balls and went on to score a 44-ball 56 with the help of four fours and two sixes. Rahul Tripathi also turned up with a handy cameo of 21 off 14 before Chetan Sakariya castled him. Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan added vital runs to help KKR rack up the highest team score in Sharjah this IPL season. Sakariya was the standout RR bowler.

Mavi and Ferguson blow RR away

The Royals got off to a disastrous start as Shakib Al Hasan castled Yashasvi Jaiswal around the legs. Shivam Mavi came to the party and removed Sanju Samson in his very first over. Then it was the turn of Lockie Ferguson to wreak havoc. The New Zealand speedster nipped out Liam Livingstone after which he trapped Anuj Rawat for a duck. Glenn Phillips hit one six before becoming Mavi’s victim.

Mavi also rattled Shivam Dube’s woodwork. Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Chris Morris for a duck and the writing was well and truly on the walls for the Royals. From there on, Tewatia entertained for a while. The left-hander played his shots with the tail-enders. He scored 44 off 36 with five fours and two sixes. Mavi dismissed him to put an end to the match. The Royals end their campaign on a low.
