On Sunday, September 19, Saurabh Tiwary scored a 40-ball 50 with five fours, but couldn’t take the Mumbai Indians over the finishing line in their match against Chennai Super Kings. Despite his efforts, the Kieron Pollard-led MI lost by 20 runs and kept hanging in the middle of the points table. However, he wouldn’t even have got to his fifty had the rub of the green not gone his way.

When he was on 41, MS Dhoni dropped him at the fine-leg region after a miscommunication with Dwayne Bravo. Tiwary tried to scoop the ball over the infield, but could only get a top-edge. Dhoni ran back to catch the ball, but Bravo came in his way.

In the end, neither of them could catch hold of the ball. At that point in time MI needed 42 runs off 15 balls. The dropped chance didn’t cost the Super Kings as they restricted the Mumbai-based team to 136 for eight in their 20 overs.

After CSK’s win, Dhoni lauded Bravo and Ruturaj Gaikwad for bailing the team out of jail on a difficult surface to bat on. Gaikwad scored an unbeaten 58-ball 88 with nine fours and four sixes. Bravo, on the other hand, notched a quickfire eight-ball 23 with three sixes.

“At 30 for 4, you want to put up a respectable score, I felt Rutu and Bravo got us more than what we expected. We thought of 140, to get close to 160 was tremendous. The wicket was two-paced, slightly slow to start off,” Dhoni said after the match.

“Also, it’s difficult if you’re batting lower down, if you don’t get a chance to see what is happening, you want to go hard. Rayudu got injured, so it was tough to come back from there but we batted sensibly and finished superbly. It was sensible for one batter to bat right through to the end,” he added.

Bravo also went on to pick up three wickets, conceding only 25 runs in four overs. Dhoni didn’t have a great day with the bat as he got out on three after holing out to Trent Boult off Adam Milne.
