Former cricketers Parthiv Patel and Graeme Swann has heaped praises on Rajasthan Royals’ fast bowler Kartik Tyagi for his magnificent piece of bowling in the last over of the game against Punjab Kings on Tuesday. With PBKS needing four runs to win, Tyagi bowled as many as five dot balls and also churned out the prized scalps of Deepak Hooda and a well-set Nicholas Pooran.

Swann, a former England off-spinner, didn’t mince any words in saying that Kartik’s over was the “greatest last over” he has ever witnessed. In the third ball of the over, the speedster got rid of Pooran, who found a thick outside-edge to Samson. Swann was impressed with Tyagi’s skills to deliver in the crunch moment of the encounter in Dubai on September 21.

I’ll take my hat off to Kartik Tyagi, says Swann

“That is quite possibly the greatest last over that I have seen. Two wickets, one run, defending only four. I’ll take my hat off to him. The third ball of the over was a brilliant one for me. Very full and then the caught behind happened. When the right-hander came in, he saw it and stepped across,” Swann told on Star Sports

“That could have been a wide but not for me because the batsman stepped wide and followed him. Three off the last ball and now the pressure was on and that was an absolutely perfectly executed yorker to wrap up the game,” he added.

Patel, who retired from the game back in December 2020, praised Tyagi for spearing in the yorkers with sheer precision in the hour of need.

“Every time now when there would be 4-5 runs needed in one over, we are going to say ‘Can we pull off a Kartik Tyagi’? As we have been talking about the execution, the way he nailed those yorkers. You have to give him credit. I cannot believe what I saw today,” Patel said.

In the last two overs, PBKS needed eight runs to win. Mustafizur Rahman conceded only four runs in the penultimate over to keep RR in the game. Thereafter, Tyagi took over to see the Royals over the finishing line in the humdinger.

The Royals are next scheduled to face Delhi Capitals on Saturday, September 25 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
